Green Processing Company
Green Processing Company (GPC) is a Burundian agro-industrial company. It presses avocados into oil at its plant in the Ngagara industrial quarter of Bujumbura and puts all of the residues to use. The plant has been operational since May 2025. It operates the L’Avocat des Barundi brand, the country brand of L’Avocat d’Afrika.
Mission
Supply quality avocado oil to Burundian, regional and international markets; add value to the fruit within the country; improve growers’ incomes; contribute to Burundi’s economic development.
Three rules
- The whole fruit
- Mechanical extraction below 50 °C, no solvent. An oil that keeps its chlorophyll, its vitamin E and its sterols.
- The certificate before the customer
- Every lot is analysed in the plant laboratory and leaves with its number, its results and its methods.
- Nothing wasted
- Stone, skin, cake and water become compost, briquettes and biogas. The plant aims at energy self-sufficiency.

The plant
Ngagara, Bujumbura’s industrial quarter.
The plant receives, stores, sorts and presses the whole fruit on six pressing lines. A laboratory controls every lot of oil. Packing in Flexitank, IBC or drums prepares dispatch to regional and international markets. More than USD 15 million has been invested to date, about BIF 45 billion.

Eleven thousand years, in eight milestones
- 11,000 years agoWild avocados are eaten in Honduras; 7,500 years ago they are already selected for their flesh — before maize arrived (PNAS, 2025).
- 1926A Californian postman, Rudolph Hass, plants a seed. Every Hass tree in the world descends from it; the 1935 patent earned him under 5,000 dollars.
- 2000Two New Zealand companies press the first commercial cold-pressed extra-virgin avocado oil. Within nine years the method is the world standard.
- 2018In Kenya, Olivado’s plant runs its trucks on biomethane from its avocado waste: the loop exists.
- November 2024Codex Alimentarius writes avocado oil into its world standard for vegetable oils (CXS 210). The plant laboratory works within those ranges.
- May 2025The Ngagara plant, Bujumbura, is commissioned: six lines, a laboratory, an export bay.
- 14 February 2026Burundi chairs the African Union for the first time. On 25 March, the decrees on self-generation of electricity open the way to energy from residues.
- September 2026Launch of the L’Avocat d’Afrika and L’Avocat des Barundi brands. Next: refining, other oils, new sites, energy.
The brands and the company
Three names, one company in Burundi.
L’Avocat d’Afrika is the continental brand; L’Avocat des Barundi is its country brand in Burundi; Green Processing Company is the company that makes the oil, signs the contracts and employs the teams. All commercial, regulatory and financial correspondence is in the name of Green Processing Company.
